Silver Eagle Outfitters "Second-Quality" Markdown for the Kula™ Wide-Brim Hat

When Silver Eagle set out to create the Kula Wide-Brim Hat, as with all of our products, our objective was to create the ultimate evaporative cooling product. Our design incorporates features for enhanced cooling ability such as the dual layer of cooling fabric around the brim to provide a superior cooling effect around the face and neck while extending the length of cooling time. The Kula also boasts an “Excellent” 50+ UPF, blocking 98% of the sun’s harmful UV rays. Other features like the attachable neck cover snaps on securely for added sun protection and cooling for the back of the neck.

Our first production of the Kula arrived late in October of 2004. Demand for the Kula throughout Australia and the US has been strong and consistent since the hat’s release. Although the Kula’s success is exciting for us, it has been brought to our attention that, depending on the content of our customers' water source, some of the hat's metal parts may tarnish following activation, causing a slight discoloration immediately around any metal. This defect is most frequent when activation occurs in water containing a high salt content, such as in ocean water. In some cases, the stain is easily removed during the washing process.

We have tracked the source of this problem to a change of hardware supplier after production began and are in the process of manufacturing the Kula hat again. Still committed to creating the ultimate cooling hat, we at Silver Eagle are working to manufacture the hat as it was intended and to ensure that, regardless of water source, the quality of the product and the integrity of Silver Eagle will not be compromised.

Aside from the slight discoloration, each Kula hat provides ultimate cooling performance with style and comfort, and we are still experiencing an overwhelming demand for the Kula. Because our new Kula hats are not yet available, and 2005 temperatures expected to hit record highs, we will continue to sell the Kula hats we have as seconds. We have reduced the price to $44 (inc gst) with the understanding that the discoloration is a possibility dependent upon the water content used for activation.

It will always be Silver Eagle’s mission to stand behind our products and service with integrity and goodwill.
